The ceasefire that started May 20th happened due to the historic strikes of Palestinian people beginning on the 18th and the international protests. After 73 years of continued occupation, Palestinians continue to fight back against genocide. This general strike of Palestinians, who are a part of the Zionist occupation’s workforce, was a major blow to the economy. Palestinians are working to make Palestine free in our lifetimes.

The ceasefire is not stopping Zionist violence. Although the protests were in response to the illegal evictions in Sheikh Jarrah, the ethnic cleansing continues. The Al-Aqsa Mosque was tear gassed again after the ceasefire’s start. Over 1500 Palestinians have been arrested for protesting Israeli violence. Meanwhile, the Zionists who brutalized Palestinians face zero consequences. Zionists will continue to escalate these attacks while playing victim when Palestine defends itself. SDS condemns Zionism and affirms that no Palestinian response would justify ethnic cleansing.

SDS will continue to stand in solidarity with Palestinian people for an end to the Zionist occupation of Palestine. The ceasefire itself will not bring justice to the 248 killed due to the Zionist attacks. Zionist apartheidmeans continued violence against Palestinians, which is why Palestine must be free.

Around the world, the movement for a free Palestine grows. The ceasefire happened due to international protests, despite continuedUnited States aggression. SDS supports Palestine’s struggle for freedom and demands an end of U.S. aid to Israel. From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!
